What does “intelligent manufacturing” mean to you, and how is your organization contributing to this transformation?
India is currently experiencing a dynamic period of growth, making it an exciting time to be part of this market. The machine tool industry is expanding, new investments are flowing in from abroad, and both the domestic and export markets are seeing significant demand. Renishaw is at the heart of this growth, actively supporting the precision manufacturing sector.
This is where Renishaw has been playing a key role in India’s industrial landscape, particularly in automotive, aerospace, and precision manufacturing, enhancing production efficiency quality and global competitiveness. In the automotive market, it has been serving major players in the Indian automotive industry as well as leading global electric vehicle manufacturers. “With India becoming an export hub, Renishaw’s precision measurement and process control technologies significantly aid Indian suppliers in meeting international quality standards, optimising workflows, minimising scrap, and ensuring first-time-right quality, empowering Indian manufacturers to compete globally”, adds Sanjay Sangam.
Furthermore, if we look at the aerospace market, Renishaw’s expertise in aerospace supports India’s growing aviation sector, offering solutions for low-volume, high-precision manufacturing. By automating production and driving on-point measurements, the company ensures the accuracy required for global certification and performance standards. Today, it has been able to create a niche for itself when it comes to transforming manufacturing by reducing complexity, enhancing quality control, and enabling automation. Its solutions boost yields, reduce waste, and strengthen India’s role in global automotive, aerospace, and precision engineering supply chains, positioning Renishaw as a trusted partner for excellence.
Can you share a recent breakthrough or initiative that helped empower your customers or channel partners in a significant way?
Dr Sanjeev explains Renishaw is continuing to invest in upgraded and new facilities to better support its customers. Our offices and technology centre in Pune, Chennai, Bangalore, Vadodara and Gurgaon mark a new phase in Renishaw’s development. The new facilities demonstrate our latest innovations, including the NC4+ Blue non-contact laser tool setter, the REVO® 5-axis multi-sensor measurement system, and EquatorTM shop-floor gauging systems. It also showcases our precision encoders and calibration devices, and we use these for customer demonstrations and training sessions.

We also do Channel Partner Programme, which was launched in 2021, and it continues to grow with new strategic alliances. Extensive technical training and certification for the Channel Partners, covering product installation and calibration, application engineering. troubleshooting and customer support, sales enablement and solution selling. This ensures CPs can independently deliver high-quality service and support, strengthening their role in the value chain.
How is your company embracing sustainability in machining – from materials to energy and lifecycle design?
Sanjay Sangam added “We are committed to playing our part in looking after the environment and protecting it from significant issues such as climate change. In November 2021, we announced our Net Zero targets and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that we are actively contributing towards. This means minimising our environmental impact, and working in partnership with our customers, suppliers and local communities to create positive change for people as well as the planet.”
We do this not only by improving the footprint of our own operations, such as reducing the emissions from our manufacturing facilities, but also by providing solutions to customers to help them manufacture more with less, and to deal with the shift to a more sustainable world.
The company prioritizes quality control and continuous enhancement of its products. Renishaw has also been aiding manufacturers in reducing waste and extending equipment lifespans, contributing to sustainability. Its products improve yield and reduce scrap, while the company has cut emissions by 88 percent over 12– 14 years. Furthermore, it also focuses on renewable energy, aligning with global sustainability standards.
What role are MSMEs and local suppliers playing in your machine tool ecosystem, and how are you enabling their growth?
Renishaw ensures smooth integration with existing automation systems by partnering with machine tool manufacturers and local automation experts. Their metrology tools enhance the performance of automation setups like conveyors and robots, providing accurate data for optimised production. Furthermore, its calibration systems are rigorously tested and certified in specialized labs, with recertification available as needed.
Dr Sanjeev adds, we prioritize extensive training and support for them using robust metrology and calibration systems. This is coupled by skilled engineers who are stationed close to customers through both in-house teams and its partner network, ensuring consistent, high-quality support. On-site calibration and commissioning support, access to global technical expertise and customised solutions for specific manufacturing challenges. Additionally, we invest in continuous internal training to ensure our teams stay updated, further enhancing customer support and system optimisation.
How do you see digital technologies (like AI, IoT, or digital twins) redefining machine tool applications in the next 3–5 years?
Sanjay Sangam, “To me India’s industrial landscape is undergoing a profound shift as automation, artificial intelligence, and IoT technologies take center stage. From streamlining operations in manufacturing to enabling remote healthcare solutions and smart infrastructure, technology is playing a critical role in shaping the future of core sectors.”
At IMTEX 2025, Renishaw India launched Renishaw Central, a platform that, connects all shopfloor machines, collects and analyzes data from tools, workpieces, and processes, provides a unified view of manufacturing operations for better decision-making. This aligns with India’s push toward Industry 4.0 and data-driven manufacturing.
Our ‘Process Pyramid’ system enhances manufacturing precision at every stage. As traditional metrology focuses on final part inspection, Renishaw begins with ensuring the machine tool is well-calibrated and maintained for consistent quality. This Process Foundation level ensures the machine tool’s readiness, while Process Setting automates job setups with probing technology, reducing human error and labor dependence. The third level, In-Process Control, shifts measurement from the end of production to real-time monitoring during manufacturing. This allows for immediate adjustments using in-machine probing and shop-floor systems, preventing scrap or rework. Furthermore, Post-Process Verification still involves final inspection in a standards room with CMMs, generating reports for end-users like automotive or aerospace manufacturers. Renishaw integrates all these stages with Renishaw Central; this approach ensures every part is ‘right first time’, boosting efficiency and reducing waste.
AI and data analytics have become central to operational intelligence. In healthcare, analytics assist in early diagnosis, treatment personalization, and patient flow optimization.
Machine performance measurement and diagnosis is essentially being established and repeatable level of process capability. Renishaw’s laser interferometer and ballbar measurement systems assess, monitor and improve the static and dynamic performance of machine tools, co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs) and other position-critical motion systems.
We are expecting to expand AI-driven diagnostics and predictive maintenance, deepen integration with cloud and edge platforms, and enable fully autonomous machining cells with real-time feedback loops.
Talent is a core driver of future-ready manufacturing. How are you re-skilling or upskilling your workforce for the new era?
Dr Sanjeev says that “While the appetite for smart technology is strong, several challenges persist. We have established advanced technology centres in India that serve as training and demonstration hubs. It provides a significant advantage for potential buyers to test their components using the latest technology before investment and serves as a training hub for Students, OEMs, customers, and the Renishaw staff, and Channel Partners.”
Technical training programs in automation, robotics, and digital manufacturing are given to the workforce. Soft skills and leadership development to prepare employees for cross-functional and managerial roles. Digital learning platforms that offer personalised, on-demand training aligned with global standards. We are also preparing our workforce for the future by focusing on AI, data analytics, and digital twin technologies and green manufacturing and sustainability practices.
What values or leadership principles guide your decision-making in balancing innovation, business growth, and social impact?
