The Italian construction equipment market closed the first half of 2025 with a 3% increase in sales, despite a notable 8.8% decline in exports between January and May. The figures, released by Unacea, come in the lead-up to SaMoTer 2026, set to return to Verona, Italy, from 6–9 May.
In the first half of 2025, 9,946 construction vehicles were sold on the Italian market, a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This included 9,471 construction machines (+2%) and 475 road machines, which saw a sharper rise of 10%. However, the export market remains in contraction. According to the latest Unacea-CER report, Italian exports of construction machinery totalled €1.293 billion between January and May, representing an 8.8% decline compared to the same period in 2023.
Some growth was recorded in markets such as India, the Middle East, and Africa between January and April, but this wasn’t enough to offset broader declines. The worst-performing segments included:
• Concrete equipment: -22%
• Drilling machinery: -12.1%
• Aggregate processing equipment: -11.8%
• Road construction machinery: -8%
Smaller decreases were seen in tower cranes (-4.4%) and earthmoving machines and equipment (-4.2%). Imports stood at €828 million, down 2.9% from the previous year. Despite a 17.6% drop in the trade surplus compared to 2024, Italy still closed the period with a positive trade balance of €464 million.

Although supported by government incentives, the Italian construction equipment market remains one of the most significant in Europe in terms of fleet size and overall volume. Within this context, SaMoTer 2026 presents itself as a pivotal international event for the entire construction equipment supply chain. From earthmoving to lifting, demolition, drilling, crushing, and quarrying, the exhibition will also cover construction site vehicles, concrete and road equipment, components, spare parts, logistics, and ICT services.
Organised by Veronafiere, SaMoTer is part of the official calendar of international partner events recognised by CECE, the European Committee for Construction Equipment. The upcoming edition will focus on the ongoing transformation driven by Industry 4.0, addressing key strategic themes such as sustainability, the ecological transition of machinery, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and the automation of construction sites. In parallel, it will offer space for discussion around innovation in road infrastructure, safety standards, workforce training, and the evolving role of rental in the industry.
