South Australia’s Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has integrated 60 advanced battery-electric city buses from Scania into its fleet. Production for these Scania K-series low-entry buses, featuring Volgren bodies and designed for urban Adelaide, begins later this year, with initial deliveries expected in November 2025. A key feature is Scania’s comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, enhancing road safety by proactively managing vehicle positioning, speed, and safe distances from pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. This landmark deal, which includes options for more buses until June 2029, underscores Scania’s commitment to and strong standing in Australia’s sustainable transport sector.

“This order is not only strategically significant for Scania; it also demonstrates the strength of our ongoing partnership with DIT”

says Steven Godbold, Contract Manager Government Bus, Scania Australia.

“This landmark deal means Scania will support South Australia’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable public transport network, while also increasing our penetration of the Australian electric vehicle market.”

says Anna Ställberg, Head of Urban Solutions at Scania Group.

It marks the beginning of the state’s commitment to electrify its fleet of over 1,000 buses, with 825 Scania vehicles already in service.
