Sarus Aerospace has emerged as one of the promising players in India’s aerospace ecosystem. Could you share the company’s journey so far and how your innovations are contributing to India’s goal of self-reliance in aerospace technology?
Sarus Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. was founded with a clear vision — to build indigenous capabilities in the aerospace and unmanned systems sector and contribute to India’s journey toward technological self-reliance. We initially began by addressing customization requirements from clients to better understand the market needs and operational challenges faced in the drone and aerospace industry.
This phase provided us with valuable insights into practical applications, design limitations, and the technology gaps within the Indian UAV ecosystem. With this understanding, we gradually transitioned into research, design, and development of indigenous UAV systems and subsystems.
Today, Sarus Aerospace focuses on a complete in-house ecosystem — encompassing composite manufacturing, embedded electronic solutions, and proprietary software development for UAVs. Our R&D efforts are spread across multiple domains:
- VTOL and multirotor drones designed for industrial, defense, and commercial applications.
- Indigenous component development, including smart battery management systems, high-amp connectors, GNSS modules, and PPK systems.
- Software solutions for mission planning, ground control, and real-time data analytics tailored for Indian UAV operations.
- Composite structure manufacturing to achieve lightweight, durable, and high-performance airframes for extended endurance and payload capacity.
Beyond technology, we’ve also emphasized skill development and industry-academia collaboration. Through our partnerships with institutions like the Visvesvaraya Technological and Research Foundation (VIRF) and several engineering colleges, we’ve set up Centers of Excellence (CoEs) and drone labs to promote innovation, training, and hands-on exposure for students.

What are some of the key technologies and manufacturing capabilities that differentiate Sarus Aerospace — particularly in UAV systems, aerostructures, or advanced materials?
At Sarus Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., our strength lies in developing indigenous and integrated technologies that bring together design innovation, material science, electronics, and software — all under one roof.
In the UAV systems domain, we focus on VTOL and multirotor platforms with advanced aerodynamic designs, modular structures, and tool-less assembly for ease of maintenance and deployment. Our frames are engineered for long endurance (up to 90 minutes), payload flexibility, and multi-sector applications including defense, agriculture, mining, and infrastructure monitoring.
On the manufacturing front, we have established capabilities in composite material production, enabling us to design and fabricate lightweight yet high-strength airframes using advanced carbon-fiber layup techniques. These composites are entirely developed in-house to ensure structural integrity, reduced weight, and optimized aerodynamics.
In electronics and embedded systems, we are developing smart battery management systems, high-amp connectors, GNSS and PPK modules, and power-signal distribution boards — all tailored for UAV integration.
Our proprietary software ecosystem complements these hardware solutions, offering seamless mission planning, control, and telemetry through custom-built interfaces.
This combination of aerostructure design, composite manufacturing, embedded innovation, and software integration makes Sarus Aerospace one of the few companies in India capable of delivering end-to-end UAV solutions that are truly indigenous and scalable.
Collaboration is key in high-technology sectors like aerospace. Could you elaborate on your recent partnerships with research institutions, government agencies, or industry players that are driving innovation at Sarus Aerospace?
At Sarus Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., we believe that meaningful collaboration between industry, academia, and government is essential to accelerate innovation and build a sustainable aerospace ecosystem in India.
We have signed an MoU with the Visvesvaraya Technological and Research Foundation (VIRF) to establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) in Drone Technology. This initiative promotes indigenous R&D, hands-on training, and interdisciplinary research in UAV systems, composite manufacturing, embedded electronics, and aerospace software.
Through this CoE, students and researchers gain direct exposure to industrial practices while contributing to ongoing projects at Sarus Aerospace.
In addition, we are actively working with engineering institutions to help set up Drone Labs and Research Centers. These partnerships focus on fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and skill development among students — bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
We also collaborate with industrial bodies such as BeTCA, BDSSA, and Laghu Udyog Bharati Belgaum, along with local manufacturing clusters, to promote advancements in precision engineering, tooling, and materials development.
One of our key collaborative efforts has been with the Indian Army, where our team is engaged in the development of drone-based ammunition and tactical UAV systems. This initiative aims to enhance precision, range, and operational efficiency for defense applications — marking a significant step toward strengthening India’s indigenous defense manufacturing ecosystem.
Through these collaborations, Sarus Aerospace continues to build a strong foundation for a self-reliant and innovation-driven aerospace future for India.
As you participate in IMS 2025, what products, systems, or technologies will Sarus Aerospace be showcasing at the event? What message would you like visitors and potential partners to take away from your booth?
At IMS 2025, Sarus Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. will be showcasing two of its flagship indigenous UAV systems — VIKRAM and TORANA — representing India’s growing strength in drone technology, defense innovation, and advanced aerospace manufacturing.
VIKRAM is a kamikaze and surveillance UAV platform designed for both defense and industrial applications. It combines long-range endurance, high-precision targeting, and real-time reconnaissance capabilities. Engineered with indigenous composites and smart avionics, VIKRAM demonstrates our capability to develop mission-ready tactical drones that enhance situational awareness and precision engagement for the Indian Defence Forces.
TORANA, on the other hand, is a high-endurance multirotor UAV with a modular and foldable airframe built entirely by Sarus Aerospace. It offers over 70 minutes of flight time with payload and up to 90 minutes without, featuring a tool-less design for rapid deployment and maintenance. TORANA is ideally suited for industrial, agricultural, and infrastructure-based missions, offering versatility and reliability for diverse field operations.

Looking ahead, what is your vision for Sarus Aerospace over the next five years? How do you see India’s aerospace and UAV sector evolving, and what role do you envision your company playing in that transformation?
Over the next five years, Sarus Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. envisions becoming one of India’s leading end-to-end UAV and aerospace technology companies, driving innovation across design, materials, electronics, and software integration.
Our goal is to create a fully indigenous ecosystem where every major UAV subcomponent — from composite airframes and embedded systems to mission control software — is developed and manufactured in India.
We aim to expand our portfolio of defense-grade UAVs, including advanced VTOL platforms, kamikaze drones, and long-endurance surveillance systems, while also scaling our solutions for industrial, agricultural, and logistics applications.
Parallelly, we plan to strengthen our R&D infrastructure and training programs, nurturing a new generation of aerospace engineers and innovators through our Centers of Excellence and drone research initiatives.
