2027 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD Get More HP With New Diesel, Gas V8s

The upcoming 2027 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD have been revealed, with new diesel and gas V8s, electric power steering, eBoost braking and advanced trailering technology.

GM says the new “Mongoose” Duramax 8.3L Turbo-Diesel V8 and 6.6L gas V8 deliver “more horsepower and torque than ever before on Silverado HD.”

The heavy-duty pickups come in six available trims, starting with the WT (Work Truck) and topping with the luxury High Country. The other trims in the lineup: Custom, LT, LTZ and the off-road ZR2.

Starting MSRPs for the 2500 HD range from the base 2WD WT at $49,995, to $78,195 for the 4WD crew cab High Country, including destination freight charges, according to GM Authority.

The new heavy-duty pickup trucks are expected to be available for order later this year, along with detailed pricing, GM says. 

The Engines

Buyers of the 2500 HD and 3500 HD will get choice of GM’s newest diesel and gas V8s.

The standard “Enhanced 6.6L gas V8” boasts the following specs:

• 412 horsepower
• 472 lb.-ft. of torque
• 19,000 lbs. max available towing
• 6,990 lbs. max available payload

Specs for the available Duramax 8.3L Turbo-Diesel V8:

• 555 horsepower (best-in-class)
• 1,230 lb.-ft. of torque (best-in-class)
• 38,000 lbs. max available towing
• 6,170 lbs. max available payload

What Else is New?

2027 Chevy Silverado 3500 HDChevroletThe 2027 heavy-duty pickups will be the first Silverado HDs to get these new features:

• Electric power steering — electrically assisted rack-and-pinion steering system designed for nimble maneuvering on switchbacks, fitting into tight spaces and reduced maintenance. It also delivers quieter operation with no hydraulic noise and reduces steering kickback when off-road, the company says.
• New eBoost braking — uses advanced technology to deliver added stopping power under load, especially on long downhill grades or when making repeated stops while towing, according to GM. The company says eBoost’s delivers “more predictable brake feel; smoother, faster brake response; improved braking power, cooling and consistency.”

The Silverado HDs also get new tech for making towing easier:

• Tow/Haul Mode — increases steering damping for better trailer control.
• Diesel exhaust braking — helps reduce brake stress.
• Available Trailer Side Blind-Zone Alert.
• In-vehicle trailering app.
