The new, larger DX360LC-9 and DX400HD-9 models follow the path of innovation set by the DX230LC-9 and DX260LC-9

Develon has expanded its Series 9 Smart Crawler Excavator lineup with two larger models, the DX360LC-9 in the 37 tonne class and the DX400HD-9 in the 42 tonne class. The two machines join the DX230LC-9 and DX260LC-9, which were first presented at Bauma 2025 and later introduced across Europe.

The Series 9 platform is based on full electronic hydraulic (FEH) technology and a set of integrated digital and automation functions aimed at improving machine control, site awareness and operator assistance.

The DX360LC-9 is powered by the Develon DX08V engine, delivering 227 kW (304 HP) at 1800 rpm and a maximum torque of 1230 kgf/m at 1300 rpm. The machine has a maximum digging depth of 7512 mm with standard front equipment and a maximum digging reach of 11,113 mm.

The same DX08V engine is also used on the DX400HD-9, replacing the Scania engine used previously on this model class. On the DX400HD-9, the engine provides 254 kW (341 HP) at 1800 rpm and a maximum torque of 1460 kgf/m at 1300 rpm. Maximum digging depth and reach are listed at 7512 mm and 11,113 mm respectively, with standard front equipment.

Develon DX-9 Range

A key change in the Series 9 range is the move from hydraulic pilot controls to a full electronic hydraulic system. According to Develon, this architecture makes it possible to introduce a broader set of electronic assistance functions and to offer more customisation of machine response and control settings.

Among the main features introduced on the Series 9 excavators is a Smart Around View Monitor system combining cameras and artificial intelligence to detect people in the machine’s working area. A radar system is also used to identify objects at distances of up to 6 m. When a person is detected within a preset danger zone of 4 m, the system can trigger an emergency stop of swing or travel functions.

The machines also include a Virtual Wall function that allows operators to define digital working limits intended to reduce the risk of contact with overhead obstacles or underground utilities. The FEH configuration also supports functions such as stick steer travel through joystick thumbwheels, while allowing operators to adjust joystick sensitivity, response time and button assignments.

All Series 9 models are factory pre-equipped for 2D grading and can be upgraded to 3D guidance systems. Built-in IMU sensors are designed to support plug-and-play integration with systems from suppliers such as Trimble and Leica. Inside the cab, the conventional monitor has been replaced by a 12-inch vertical touchscreen with a split-screen layout. The interface allows operators to view grading data, camera feeds and machine information at the same time.

Develon says the new generation offers up to 10% better fuel efficiency and up to 7% higher engine output compared with the previous platform. The company also highlights a number of optional or newly introduced assistance systems intended to support productivity and safety. These include Advanced Lift Assist, which displays current lifting capacity and provides warnings related to tipping risk. The system uses a lifting force table and takes machine inclination into account, including when working on slopes or uneven terrain.

Other available features include breaker assist to reduce blank firing, an auto breaker function for demolition work, an onboard weighing system to help monitor payloads, and joystick-based travel control for improved manoeuvrability in confined spaces.

The Series 9 machines also incorporate Prognostics and Health Management technology to monitor components such as hydraulic oil, engine oil and main pumps. In its higher specification, the system adds controllers and sensors intended to support diagnosis and abnormality detection for the main pump, swing motor and swing reduction gear. A Bluetooth-enabled digital key is also available through the My Develon fleet management app, allowing cab access and engine start without a physical key.
