Louisville-based Hex Head licenses with pro sports teams, the NCAA and even the military so it can make the decorative piece de resistance for your fan cave.

A proper fan cave or man cave in your home typically consists of more than a large screen tv and a comfortable couch.

Among the many accoutrements these private sports viewing rooms contain are signage and symbols of your favorite sports team. The cave creates a mood and atmosphere that can be more comfortable and enjoyable than trudging to the stadium and paying $12 for a beer.

To round out the complete fan experience of your fan cave personal shrine, many sports fans prefer to display their love of their favorite team with a piece of wall art of the team’s official logo.

Leading the way in sign display is American manufacturer Hex Head, a Louisville, Kentucky-based company that has licensing agreements with all the major professional sports leagues and more than 100 colleges. Hex Head uses marine-grade aluminum to create 3D metal wall art.

If you are a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Dodgers or Boston Celtics, Hex Head has a high-quality 3D reproduction of that team’s logo to adorn the walls of your fan cave. And if it’s colleges you prefer, you can find the same distinct type of logos for Notre Dame, Ohio State or Alabama.

Company owner Jamie Watts founded Hex Head in 2013 and has seen tremendous growth year over year. In 2025, Hex Head produced more than $11 million in revenue, an increase of 34% over the previous year.

“The product has evolved over the past 12 years, and we really have become something else,” said Watts, a 55-year-old Kentucky native. “Now we have over 3,000 design SKUs and we’ve got over 200 licenses of different teams.

“We manufacture all our products here in Louisville, so we distribute and sell direct-to-consumer pretty much exclusively through our website. This is an interesting business in that we sell online and we are our own manufacturer. The Made in America concept for us is very real.”

Hex Head currently has 42 employees that work in a 38,000 square-foot Louisville factory. All products are designed, prototyped, manufactured, painted and packed and shipped in the Bluegrass State.

“The product that we make is not inexpensive. Part of that is because it is made in the USA and part of it is that it is licensed,” said Watts. “What we’ve decide to do is not make tchotchke trinkets. We’ve decided to make something that is valuable, long-standing, the type of thing that you pass along to your kids. We decided to make something of higher quality, which is what people have, since I was a kid, associated Made in America with.”

Watts acknowledges that much of Hex Head’s aluminum material is likely imported but noted that localized production makes his business very agile.

“The cool thing about what we do, and this is sort of the American-made side of things, is because we are made in the United States, there are certain things I can do that other people can’t do,” he said. “One of the things I can do is we are incredibly nimble. We are in a runup of the college football playoffs and the Super Bowl, so what happens when someone wins the Super Bowl, you go and try to buy a product that is out there.

“Now hats and t-shirts can be printed pretty quickly but anything outside of that you’re talking about months. You’re going to have to wait months for that product to come out because they have to have it made in China and they have to bring it over on the slow boat.

“At Hex Head, all our products launch within seconds of that game’s end. The entire website changes, everything launches, the products are immediately available. That creates a bit of an advantage for us.”

Another Made in America advantage that Watts enjoys is the 3,000 design SKUs that can be made with small-batch production.

“Can you imagine if you were a direct importer and you had 3,000 design SKUs? You couldn’t do it. You’d go broke. It would mean $15 million of product on the shelves at all times. It would never work because teams get hot and the demand goes up.”

Right now, the Chicago Bears are Hex Head’s hottest NFL team. Last season, it was the red-hot Detroit Lions. For college sports a new design of the Notre Dame leprechaun holding a football is a steady bestseller.

“The Chicago Bears roaring bear and anything Indiana Hoosiers are hot sellers right now,” said Watts. “They are just losing their minds about the Indiana football team. There are some that are just good sellers year in and year out. The Chicago Cubs, Ohio State, the 49ers, Michigan and the Dodgers who won the World Series again and were always a big seller.”

Hex Head offers metal wall art in sizes from eight inches, which can sit on an office desk, to the more popular wall hangings that can be more than 30 inches depending on the shape of the team’s logo.

“The small desk ones have a built-in easel and then we have some that are monograms that are personalized so you can put it on your front door,” said Watts.

Hex Head also makes wall art that is licensed from all branches of the U.S. military.

“For the military, we have a lot that are personalized,” said Watts. “Our military collection is something we have that is very unique and we are building on that all the time as far as adding additional patches and regiments and division for all our military partners.

“Military products are relatively inexpensive on the licensing side, so they don’t have a lot of expectations like the NFL for example. Because we are made in the USA, they really seem to like that.”

The price range for sports and military wall hanging images varies from $30 up to $400.

“You will always be able to talk to a real person, not AI, if you call us,” said Watts. “I answer the phone along with my customer service team. We tell people to read the reviews on our website. It’s amazing how many five-star reviews we get. That is going to tell you all you need to know about value.”
