NTT and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Achieved World's Highest Efficiency in Laser Wireless Power Transmission under Atmospheric Turbulence-- Toward next-generation long-distance wireless power transmission for disaster-stricken areas, remote islands,

・ By using the beam shaping technology, which makes the beam uniform after long-distance propagation, and output current leveling technology, which reduces the atmospheric turbulence, we succeeded in transmitting 1 kW and receiving 152 W, resulting in 15% efficiency(Note1). ・ This achievement represents a first step toward realizing stable power supply in remote areas such as isolated islands and disaster-stricken regions, where laying power cables has previously been difficult. By using laser-based, pinpoint, on-demand power transmission, it is expected to enable a new level of flexible energy delivery, providing electricity only where and when it is needed.
