Komatsu, K-Tec Team Up to Match HM460-6 Articulated Truck to 37-Yard Scraper

Komatsu’s HM460-6 articulated dump truck has been approved to pull K-Tec’s 1237 ADT scraper, giving contractors a new option for mass earthmoving jobs.

The 518-horsepower articulated dump truck is an ideal match with the 37-cubic-yard-capacity scraper, the company says. The pairing was tested and approved by Komatsu engineers to withstand the demands of the jobsite while retaining the standard one-year unlimited warranty on the truck. Optional extended coverage up to 60 months and 10,000 hours is also available for the HM460-6.

An articulated dump truck chassis matched with a tow-behind scraper delivers advantages over traditional excavator-and-truck setups when operators get into long-distance hauling applications, says Bruce Boebel, Komatsu director of construction product and service, including “the ability to handle soft and complex ground conditions and travel at a relative high rate of speed.” The mass-earthmoving platform also requires just one operator instead of two.

For added flexibility, the HM460-6 can be converted back for use as a dump truck when the job requires it.

The collaboration between Komatsu and K-Tec allows Komatsu dealers to order K-Tec scrapers, hitches and parts directly from K-Tec effective immediately. Interested buyers should check with their local Komatsu dealer for availability.

Inside the HM460-6

The new HM460-6 replaces the HM400-5 in Komatsu’s lineup, touting a new high-output powertrain, advanced traction control system and redesigned cab.

The truck runs on Komatsu’s new 518-horsepower DBA127 Tier 4 Final diesel engine, engineered to deliver increased torque at lower engine speeds and improved fuel efficiency. The engine is paired with a new nine-speed Komatsu transmission and intelligent gear control, designed for performance across challenging driving conditions such as soft and wet ground.

The HM460-6 also features the Komatsu Traction Control System matched with cross-axle differential locks to help maintain traction in all conditions. A standard hydro-pneumatic suspension system further enhances ride comfort and stability.

Inside the redesigned cab, operators will find improved sightlines, intuitive monitors and new operator-assistance technologies.

The HM400-5 was Komatsu's top-selling articulated dump truck for the first half of this year, according to Fusable's EDA finance data, positioning the HM460-6 as a strong contender in the market.
