Epiroc has received a significant order from Asante Gold Corporation, a Canadian-based mining company, to supply a fleet of advanced underground mining machines and digital optimization systems for the Chirano Gold Mine in southwestern Ghana.
The order, valued at approximately MSEK 115 (USD 12 million) and booked in the third quarter of 2025, includes state-of-the-art mining trucks, loaders, and drilling rigs from Epiroc’s Smart series, designed for automation and real-time data integration.
Empowering a historic Ghanaian mine with next-generation technology
The Chirano Gold Mine, located in the Bibiani–Anhwiaso–Bekwai District of Ghana’s Western North Region, has been a cornerstone of Ghana’s gold production since the early 2000s. Once operated by Kinross Gold, Chirano is now fully owned and managed by Asante Gold Corp, following its acquisition in 2022.
The mine operates as a combined open-pit and underground operation, with an annual production capacity exceeding 200,000 ounces of gold. The new Epiroc fleet marks a major milestone in Asante’s strategic plan to modernize operations, improve efficiency, and enhance safety while extending the life of the Chirano deposit.

“We are very pleased to support Asante Gold with our top-modern loaders, trucks and drilling rigs,” said Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s President and CEO. “The integration of our digital situational awareness platform will boost operational efficiency and safety through real-time monitoring and intelligent data-driven decision-making.”
Smart, sustainable, and automation-ready machinery
Asante Gold has ordered a comprehensive fleet of Epiroc’s most advanced underground mining equipment, including:
Minetruck MT65 S – Epiroc’s largest underground truck, capable of hauling up to 65 tonnes per cycle, renowned for its strength, reliability, and efficiency in deep mining operations. Equipped with RCS (Rig Control System) technology, it is automation-ready and optimized for fuel efficiency.
Scooptram ST18 S – A high-capacity 18-tonne loader, engineered for demanding underground conditions. The ST18 S offers superior breakout force, operator comfort, and real-time performance tracking via Epiroc’s Certiq telematics system.
Boomer M20 S – A revolutionary face drilling rig featuring dual heavy-duty booms and automation capabilities for accurate and consistent drilling. Its internal hydraulics and smart control systems minimize downtime and reduce total drilling cost per meter.
Simba E70 S – A precision production drilling rig designed for long-hole drilling in medium to large mines. Integrated with ABC Total automation, it allows for remote operation and data analytics integration to enhance productivity and reduce operator exposure.

These machines, all part of Epiroc’s Smart series, can be connected through 6th Sense, Epiroc’s digital ecosystem that combines automation, information management, and system integration for a fully connected mine.
Digital solutions driving a new era of mining
Beyond the physical equipment, Epiroc will implement a digital situational awareness solution, which provides near real-time insights into operations — tracking machine locations, tonnages moved, cycle times, and meters drilled. This system enables supervisors to make faster, more informed decisions, optimizing fleet utilization and maintenance schedules.
“We are excited to collaborate with Epiroc to upgrade operations and increase gold production at our Chirano Mine,” said Dave Anthony, President and CEO of Asante Gold Corp. “This partnership is key to unlocking Chirano’s full potential, combining Epiroc’s cutting-edge technology with our commitment to sustainable, high-performance mining.”
The delivery of the equipment has already begun and will continue over the next few months. Epiroc will also provide comprehensive service support, spare parts, and on-site training for Chirano’s technical staff.
About the Chirano Gold Mine
Located approximately 100 kilometers southwest of Kumasi, Chirano began production in 2005 and has since produced over 3 million ounces of gold. The mine includes multiple open pits and underground operations connected by an extensive network of declines and haulage systems. The site’s processing plant has a capacity of 3.5 million tonnes per year, producing doré bars for export.
Under Asante Gold’s management, the mine is transitioning towards a digitally integrated, low-emission operation, with goals aligned to Ghana’s Green Mining Initiative. The integration of Epiroc’s Smart equipment and digital ecosystem is a key step toward achieving this transformation
