Delvano Chooses Volvo Penta Engines for Next-Generation Self-Propelled Sprayers
Belgian manufacturer selects the TAD883 engine to boost power, efficiency and reliability across its redesigned Euro-Trac lineup. www.volvopenta.com Delvano, one of Europe’s most established builders of agricultural sprayers, has selected the Volvo Penta TAD883 engine to become the standard power unit across its self-propelled lineup as it streamlines its range. Founded nearly 60 years ago in West Flanders, Belgium, Delvano produces both self-propelled and trailed sprayer models, and has earned a reputation for robust engineering and innovation, including designing the world’s widest spray boom. Continuing this legacy, and promising efficiency and reliability in a demanding sector, Volvo Penta engines have been selected to power Delvano’s advanced Euro-Trac 6000 and 7000 sprayer models. For Delvano, the decision to work with Volvo Penta was quite straightforward. “When we evaluated our next engine partner, Volvo Penta clearly stood out,” says Robbe Desmet, technical lead for Delvano. “We looked at several manufacturers, but Volvo Penta offered the best combination of power, efficiency, and service, with extensive experience in our region and offering 24/7 support, which is something our customers rely on during the busiest spraying periods.” Delvano’s customers operate within tight farming windows, making uptime and service support critical. Volvo Penta’s established dealer network was therefore a decisive factor. “We looked for an independent supplier,” says Robbe. “When a customer calls a Volvo Penta dealer, they get an answer. To be treated with such a high level of service makes a real difference in the field.” Engineering a better balance The collaboration began when Delvano started re-engineering its self-propelled sprayers to meet new power demands and improve efficiency, and sought the performance and service levels required for its next generation of machines. Delvano’s team conducted a comprehensive review of engine options before selecting Volvo Penta. The 8-liter, six-cylinder TAD883 engine delivers 235 kW (320 hp), offering both a power increase and improved torque characteristics compared to the previous 180-kW unit. An additional advantage of Volvo’s extra-powerful PTOs is that hydraulic pumps can be installed closer to the machine’s center point. This allows the spray boom to be positioned nearer to the machine in new designs, and the use of separate pumps makes the system more service friendly. The Volvo Penta 8-liter TAD883 engine has proven itself in the field with Delvano. Jeroen Overvelde, area sales manager for industrial engines at Volvo Penta, highlights the strong partnership that developed during the project’s engineering phase. “From the start, our application engineer worked directly with Delvano’s design team,” Jeroen explains. “Questions were solved quickly, data was shared openly, and the installation process was remarkably smooth. It’s a great example of collaboration in action.” Delvano installed the first Volvo Penta engine in a prototype sprayer for real-world testing. Within months, the feedback from operators was decisive. “One of our customers drove across the same fields, with one machine equipped with our previous engine supplier and the other powered by Volvo Penta,” Robbe recalls. “He said the difference was like night and day. Where the old machine would slow on uphill terrain, the Volvo Penta-powered sprayer would tackle easily.” A streamlined future Delvano is consolidating its lineup and reduce the number of models produced, each built around the Volvo Penta engine and chassis configuration. The engines will arrive from Volvo Penta’s facility installation-ready, complete with tubing, couplings, and hydraulic components. Once delivered to Delvano, the pumps and tubing are assembled separately from the machine installation using a smart engineering approach. This streamlined process not only enhances production consistency but also simplifies servicing for customers and dealers. The partnership also includes customized integration of Volvo Penta’s Active Monitoring telematics system. Using a telematics gateway device, each engine transmits real-time operating data such as fuel consumption, service hours, and fault codes. Both the customer and local dealer can receive automated monthly reports, helping to proactively detect any issues before they cause downtime. In parallel, Delvano’s own digital platform SprayDay, currently in development, will connect to Volvo Penta’s data stream, allowing remote diagnostics, registering of parameters of pressure, and maintenance alerts. For Delvano, partnering with Volvo Penta and integrating its high-performance engines into their sprayers has become a significant competitive advantage. It has opened conversations that go beyond basic specifications, allowing dealers to speak confidently about long-term value, serviceability, and the assurance of support. “When Delvano dealers visit customers, they can lead w
