Review: Caterpillar Drops 247 Boot Collection for Lighter, More Flexible Fit
The new 247 collection is available in either a 6-inch work boot or 10-inch Wellington and with steel or soft toe.
Cat Footwear has released an updated version of its classic Second Shift boot first launched in the '90s, creating a lighter, more flexible option for contractors.
The new 247 boot collection is available in either a 6-inch work boot or 10-inch Wellington.
The 6-inch 247 features an EVA midsole to deliver lightweight cushioning and energy return, a closed-cell polyurethane footbed and a flexible slip- and oil-resistant rubber outsole. The 6-inch 247’s steel toe is rated ASTM F 2413-24 I/C EH SR for impact, compression and electrical hazard and is capable protecting against open circuits up to 14,000 volts in dry conditions.

The Wellington offers those same features plus a waterproof full-grain leather upper.
I received a pair of steel-toe 247 6-inch boots from Cat Footwear for testing, and they performed well. Though they aren’t as light as other carbon-toe and composite-toe pairs I’ve tested, I did find them lighter than other steel-toe pairs I’ve worn.
As Cat Footwear says in a press release, the 247s required no break-in period and were very easy to get on and off my feet. And not that it reflects on the durability, but I did get a compliment on the small, embossed dozer near the heel of the 247.
Contractors can order the 6-inch 247 as a soft- or steel-toe boot, in three colors: honey, pyramid brown, and black. The 10-inch Wellington is also available as a soft-toe or steel-toe boot and comes in pyramid brown or dark brown.
The 6-inch 247 starts at $124.95, and the 10-inch Wellington 247 starts at $134.95.
