Maxam Adds a VF Implement Tyre Built Around Soil Compaction

A VF radial for balers, mergers and seeders: 40% more load at standard pressure, or the same load at 40% less, to limit soil compaction. Maxam Adds a VF Implement Tyre Built Around Soil Compaction published on The HeavyQuip Magazine.

The MS963R RowXtra targets balers, hay mergers and seeders, where the load has grown but the ground has not got any stronger

Maxam Tire has launched the MS963R RowXtra, a VF radial implement tyre with steel belts aimed at balers, hay mergers, seeders and similar trailed equipment. The pitch is not grip, it is what the machine leaves behind.

That matters because implements have been getting heavier while the agronomic tolerance for compaction has been shrinking. VF construction, which lets a tyre flex further under load, is the mechanism: the MS963R can carry up to 40 per cent more load at standard inflation pressures, or run at up to 40 per cent lower pressure for the same load.

Where the trade-off sits

The second option is the interesting one. Lower pressure at the same load means a bigger footprint, which spreads weight over more ground and limits the damage to soil structure. A ribbed tread pattern is specified for consistent ground contact and lower rolling resistance.

Maxam has also worked on durability, which is where implement tyres usually fail rather than wear out. The tyre uses a steel belt structure with flexible sidewalls and a stubble-resistant compound, aimed at cut resistance in the fields that punish tyres most.

“As farming equipment continues to evolve for improved productivity, farmers and growers look for VF tire solutions that handle heavier loads while operating at high speeds and minimizing the impact on their fields,” said Greg Gilland, vice president of agriculture at Maxam Tire.

What a contractor should ask

For a contractor running trailed kit across other people’s fields, compaction is not an abstraction: it shows up as a complaint and, eventually, as lost work. A tyre that allows the same load at meaningfully lower pressure is the cheapest available lever, well below the cost of a lighter machine.

The MS963R is available now in several sizes with VF technology, and Maxam says more will follow. The release does not give pricing, load indices for individual sizes, or which sizes come first, which is the information a fleet manager needs before comparing it against what is already fitted.
