The machine delivers a maximum lift height of 8 metres and a load capacity of 4.8 tonnes, addressing applications that require handling materials at elevated heights or over greater distances. Design and Performance Enhancements The T48-8s builds on the operational platform of Liebherr’s T55-7s model, adopting its 115 kW engine and high-performance hydraulics while extending the telescopic boom by 550 millimetres relative to the T55-7s. This extension increases both vertical lift and forward reach, enabling operators to load materials into hoppers, trailers, or containers up to approximately 4 metres high without repositioning the machine deep into material piles. The boom and hydraulic system deliver a maximum lift height of 8 013 millimetres and a forward reach of 5 039 millimetres, supported by a variable flow load-sensing hydraulic pump with up to 200 litres per minute capacity. These characteristics translate to smoother simultaneous movements and reduced cycle times for common handling tasks. Operator Controls and Assistance Systems Ergonomic features in the cab include an operator-seat-mounted multifunction joystick and excellent all-around visibility, which support precise machine control. The electronic pre-control system on the T48-8s enables integration of assistance functions such as Auto Power, Fine Control Mode, and Automatic Telescope Retraction. An optional larger display enhances machine monitoring and operator situational awareness. Steering flexibility is provided through three selectable steering modes plus crab steering, switchable electronically via a rotary control. These modes facilitate maneuvering in confined industrial environments, enhancing productivity without sacrificing safety. Operational Efficiency and Safety Considerations Compared with competitor models in the 8-metre class, the T48-8s delivers a true 8 metre lift height, whereas many alternatives reach approximately 7.6 to 7.7 metres. Although nominal lift capacity at full retraction is slightly lower than some competitors, Liebherr reports that real-world performance between 2 metres and 4 metres of reach is competitive or superior. Integrated load moment control and optimized dump angle contribute to safer and more efficient material discharge. The longer boom design also reduces the required lift angle to reach tipping points, which improves visibility of both the load and surrounding area, mitigating collision risks during loading operations. Application Areas and Availability The T48-8s is positioned for industrial material handling, recycling operations, and sectors that benefit from greater lift height and reach within the material handling process. Sales commenced around Bauma 2025, and deliveries are underway, with machines available for configuration and order through Liebherr’s LIAS platform.
