Caterpillar has announced a broader collaboration with NVIDIA aimed at integrating advanced AI technologies into both its customer-facing solutions and internal manufacturing systems.
The partnership is expected to influence multiple aspects of Caterpillar’s operations, from machine performance and automation to dealer support and employee workflows.
“For a century, Caterpillar has built the industrial machines that shaped the world. In the age of AI, NVIDIA and Caterpillar are partnering across the full spectrum, from autonomous construction fleets to the AI data centres powering the next industrial revolution.”
Said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA.
Among the technologies introduced at CES 2026, Caterpillar revealed its new Cat AI Assistant, a voice-activated tool embedded in both digital platforms and onboard systems. Built using NVIDIA’s Riva open speech models, the assistant is designed to help users navigate machine settings, access maintenance data, and troubleshoot issues using natural language commands. It draws from Caterpillar’s own Helios data platform, enabling access to contextual, machine-specific information across connected devices and applications. In the cab, the assistant supports hands-free interaction, guiding operators through tasks and linking them with relevant content or services across the Caterpillar ecosystem.

Beyond equipment, Caterpillar is applying AI to reshape its manufacturing and supply chain systems. Using its NVIDIA AI Factory infrastructure, the company is working to streamline forecasting, scheduling, and production through a combination of real-time data and automation tools. Caterpillar is also developing digital twins of its manufacturing facilities using NVIDIA Omniverse libraries and the OpenUSD framework. These virtual replicas allow teams to simulate factory layouts, test production scenarios, and optimise workflows before implementing changes on the ground, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce operational risk.
The expanded partnership between Caterpillar and NVIDIA signals a broader push toward AI integration across the heavy equipment industry. From machine intelligence to factory simulations, the technologies presented at CES 2026 illustrate how advanced computing is becoming a key driver in the evolution of construction, mining, and energy operations.
