Volvo CE Delivers First Approved Used Equipment Machines in Asia

The Approved Used Equipment Program aims to give contractors a lower-cost route into Volvo machines while adding inspection standards, verified service records and extended coverage to the used equipment market.

As contractors across Asia look for ways to control fleet costs without taking on unnecessary downtime risk, Volvo Construction Equipment is moving deeper into the certified used machinery market.

The company has delivered the first machines under its Approved Used Equipment Program in Region Asia, with two certified Volvo EC350DL excavators handed over to customers in Malaysia. The early sales give Volvo CE a first proof point for a strategy that sits between new machine sales and the often-fragmented used equipment market: offer lower acquisition costs, but back them with factory standards, dealer service history and warranty-style protection.

The launch comes as construction businesses, quarry operators and rental companies across Asia continue to balance productivity demands with tighter capital spending. Used equipment has long been a practical option for fleet owners, but buyers often face uncertainty over maintenance history, machine condition and future repair costs. Volvo CE’s program is designed to reduce that uncertainty by certifying machines through a structured process before they are sold.

Under the program, only machines that meet Volvo CE’s qualification criteria are eligible. Each unit must comply with defined age and hour-meter requirements and must have been serviced and maintained by an authorised Volvo dealer according to Volvo’s recommended maintenance schedules. Before receiving the Volvo Approved Used Equipment certification, every machine is inspected across more than 100 checkpoints.

One of the key elements of the offer is Volvo Extended Coverage, included with every Volvo Approved Used Equipment machine. This gives customers additional protection against unexpected repair costs, a feature that is not typically part of conventional used equipment purchases. In practical terms, Volvo CE is positioning the program as a way for contractors to reduce upfront investment while keeping more control over ownership risk and machine availability.

The program currently covers selected small and medium excavators. The first reported sales in Malaysia involved two EC350DL excavators, and both customers also signed one-year service contracts as part of their purchase. That detail is significant: it shows that the buyers were not only looking for a lower-cost machine, but also for continued dealer support during operation.

According to Volvo CE, the program also gives dealers a stronger role across the full machine lifecycle. Certified used equipment can help dealers develop their used equipment and rental businesses, compete more effectively against value brands and create additional touchpoints with customers after the first sale.

“Customers purchasing used equipment want the same confidence and peace of mind they expect when investing in a new machine. The Volvo Approved Used Equipment Program combines rigorous inspection standards, verified maintenance records, and Volvo Extended Coverage to ensure customers receive dependable equipment backed by the support and expertise of Volvo CE. At the same time, it helps our dealers provide a stronger value proposition in an increasingly competitive market.”

Said Jerome Ho, Manager Uptime Services, Volvo CE, Region Asia.

For Volvo CE, the first deliveries in Malaysia mark an early step in building that model across the region. The next test will be whether the program can scale beyond initial sales and become a regular channel for contractors looking for dependable machines with lower acquisition costs and stronger lifecycle support.
