Caterpillar introduced a new heavy-duty undercarriage configuration for their 325 Excavator, designed to increase stability in challenging conditions. The updated undercarriage features an oversized 203-mm (8-in) track pitch, enhancing performance on uneven terrain, making it suitable for applications such as site preparation, land clearing, and forestry work. An optional front blade is available to simplify backfilling tasks and help keep the machine level when operating on slopes.
The new configuration has a 7.5 tonne counterweight, enhancing balance and control even when equipped with attachments. The new configuration can be fitted with either Reach or VAB fronts, with or without a blade, and comes with a thumb-ready stick and quick coupler circuit preinstalled from the factory, reducing the need for aftermarket modifications. Stability equivalent to the 325 with an 8.3-tonne counterweight and standard undercarriage, its larger final drives increase drawbar pull to better climb grades, and higher swing torque maintains swing uphill capabilities.

Cat 325 Excavator with HD undercarriage
“We are excited to launch the new 325 configuration. Designed with our customers in mind, it supports heavier work tool combinations while delivering enhanced stability. The extended undercarriage and dedicated counterweight contribute to a solid, balanced platform, while increased drawbar pull and swing torque help improve performance on challenging terrain and slopes.”
Said Adrian Grigorita, Vice President, Product Management for Medium Hydraulic Excavators Caterpillar.
Cat 325: Technology and Maintenance Highlights
The Cat 325 Excavator comes equipped with easy-to-use standard technologies such as Cat Grade with 2D, Grade Assist, Lift Assist, and Payload. These features help operators work more accurately and efficiently, boosting overall productivity. Smart Mode automatically adjusts engine power to match hydraulic demand, reducing fuel consumption without compromising performance. The electrohydraulic system, combined with extended maintenance intervals and a reduced number of filters, contributes to lower owning and operating costs. Daily checks are simplified through ground-level access to engine oil, improving safety and convenience on the jobsite.
