Develon Delivers First Electric Excavators in Ireland

The first Develon electric excavators have been delivered in Ireland. EMS Machinery, the brand’s main dealer based in Naas, Co. Kildare, supplied two DX20ZE-7 2-tonne mini excavators to Fingal County Council, located north of Dublin, following a public tender. The deployment of these electric models aligns with a wider shift among local authorities toward low-emission construction equipment.

The DX20ZE-7 is Develon’s first mass-produced electric mini excavator. Weighing 2 tonnes, it combines zero emissions and reduced noise levels with the design and performance updates introduced across the DX-7 Series range.

“The DX20ZE-7 is designed to meet a growing demand for electric machines. As compact equipment, such as mini excavators, has a higher tendency to work in cities and residential areas, where it has proximity to other workers, it has a great advantage over the diesel counterpart due to less noise and no emissions.”

Says Seamus Flynn, Sales Director at EMS Machinery.

Characteristics

The DX20ZE-7 is designed for confined or indoor work, such as demolition and construction in sensitive environments. Retractable tracks allow the machine to pass through narrow access points; once positioned, the tracks extend to improve stability and lifting capacity.

This mini excavator is powered by a 20.4 kWh lithium-ion battery developed in-house by Develon. The system is built to operate reliably in demanding site conditions. A fast-charging system restores 80% of battery capacity in around 1 hour and 20 minutes, while the integrated on-board charger completes a full charge in approximately eight hours.

Specifics

Rated power, electric motor: 13.7 kW (18.4 HP)

Battery capacity: 51.6 V (20.4 kWh)

Operating weight: 1941 kg

Maximum digging depth: 2350 mm

Maximum digging reach (ground): 3875 mm

Maximum loading height: 2625 mm

Telematics as Standard

Telematics come as standard on the DX20ZE-7. Through a dedicated app or web portal, operators and fleet managers can monitor machine health, location, and usage in real time. The system supports theft prevention and tracking, restricts unauthorised use, and provides alerts for scheduled maintenance. Key parameters such as oil pressure and operating temperature are also available, enabling data-driven decisions and operator training to improve efficiency on site.

As Seamus Flynn said, this delivery signals a step forward towards a more sustainable construction industry:

“MS Machinery and Develon are committed to continuing this progress, supporting stakeholders such as Fingal County Council in building a greener, more efficient future”.
