News keeps coming from DAF Trucks as the brand expands its electric line-up with a wide range of 6×2, 6×4, and 8×4 tractor and rigid models for specialist applications and the construction sector. The new chassis variants are available for the XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric.

FTG and FTN Electric: 6×2 tractors with steered pusher or trailing axle

The DAF XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric are now available on the market as 6×2 tractors, ideal for heavy-duty distribution applications. The FTG chassis features a pusher axle (steered or non-steered), making it well-suited for operations where payload capacity is crucial, while the FTN always comes with a steered trailing axle for easier manoeuvrability.

They are powered by the PACCAR EX-D2 e-motor, delivering 270 kW (370 hp) to 350 kW (480 hp). The FTG comes standard with three battery packs, while the FTN offers three, four or five packs for zero-emission ranges of more than 500 km per charge. With GCWs (Gross Combination Weight) of up to 50 tonnes, electric EcoCombi configurations are also possible.

FAS Electric: 6×2 rigid with trailing axle

The FAS is designed for applications that require high static payload capacity, with a gross vehicle weight of up to 28 tonnes. It features a double-mounted trailing axle rated at 10 tonnes, making it well-suited to tipper bodies and demountable container systems, where the full load can briefly rest on the third axle during loading and unloading. FAS models can be specified with three to five battery packs and either the PACCAR EX-D1 or EX-D2 e-motor (170 to 350 kW), enabling a wide range of applications and ranges of over 500 km depending on configuration.

FAT and FAW Electric: 6×4 and 8×4 rigids with double-driven tandem

DAF is expanding the XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric range with the 6×4 FAT and 8×4 FAW, aimed at heavy-duty work and construction applications. With a robust 21-tonne tandem set (single or hub reduction with leaf-spring or air suspension) and high traction, these electric trucks are designed for job-site use. The 6×4 FAT is also available with a lighter 19-tonne tandem.

The FAW Electric uses an 8×4 layout (GVW up to 37 tonnes), suited for tippers and demountable systems with a crane, as well as hauling large volumes of sand, gravel, and asphalt. Both the FAT and FAW rigids can be specified with PACCAR EX-D1 or EX-D2 e-motors and three, four or five battery packs.

Powertrain and Battery Technology

The DAF XD, XF, XG, and XG+ Electric use PACCAR EX-D1 and EX-D2 e-motors, with outputs ranging from 170 kW (230 hp) to 350 kW (480 hp), with peak torque figures of 1,500 Nm and 2,400 Nm, respectively. The drivetrains are powered by lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, in configurations with two to five packs (210 to 525 kWh). The liquid-cooled LFP batteries offer high thermal stability for improved safety and come with an 8-year warranty.
