Since 2018, 10.000 deliveries of Volvo-branded gas-powered trucks have been made. 2025 was the strongest sales year, especially in the UK market, followed by Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, and France. Gas is also gaining traction in India and Latin America, where volumes are steadily increasing.
“We see substantial potential for gas-powered trucks as an important step on the journey toward zero-emission transport.”
Says Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks. The key focus of the heavy-duty models offering gas engines, the Volvo FM, FH, and FH Aero ranges, is to reduce CO₂ emissions. They can run smoothly on conventional LNG (liquefied natural gas) or on bio-LNG, a non-fossil gas produced from organic waste that can replace LNG. They offer a range of up to 1,000 km on a single tank, making them suitable for long-haul operations as well as construction applications.

In several countries, the network of gas filling stations and access to bio-LNG are already well-developed, for example in Germany, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, and are expanding rapidly. This enables many users to achieve CO₂ reductions of up to 100% (well-to-wheel).
Deliver diesel-like performance while significantly cutting CO₂ emissions. In markets where tax incentives and public support for renewable fuels and low emissions are available, bio-LNG becomes a highly cost-effective alternative.
