Manitowoc has launched the Potain MDT 99e, a compact topless tower crane designed to improve lifting performance and operational efficiency on modern construction sites. The crane features the new CCS Evolution control system, which is being introduced for the first time on this model, and is designed to comply with the upcoming EN 14439:2025 European design standard.
The Potain MDT 99e has a maximum lifting capacity of 5 tonnes, a horizontal reach of up to 55 metres and a jib-end capacity of 1.2 tonnes. Its compact design, simplified assembly and updated control technology are intended to help contractors manage lifting operations in space-constrained urban environments and residential construction projects.
The crane combines Potain’s lifting technology with controls designed to improve precision, simplify commissioning and support maintenance. Its features include Potain Plus software, the Top Site anti-collision system and Power Control, which helps maintain crane performance when the available power supply varies. An Ultra View cab is also available as an option.
CCS Evolution Control System Enhances Crane Operation
The MDT 99e is the first Potain crane to feature the CCS Evolution control system. Building on the existing Crane Control System, the updated system is designed to provide smoother crane movements, greater precision and improved operator control.
A touchscreen and intuitive interface are intended to simplify commissioning and maintenance for technicians. The system also allows operators to personalise control settings to suit their preferences, helping reduce setup time when the crane is used by different operators.
These features are particularly relevant to rental fleets and construction sites where multiple operators may work with the same equipment. A familiar control layout and simplified setup can help teams adapt to the crane while supporting consistent operation.
Thibaut Le Besnerais, vice president of marketing and product development at Potain, said, “Space constraints continue to challenge contractors, particularly in urban environments where every square meter matters. The MDT 99e delivers the ideal combination of compact design, lifting performance, and ease of installation. Combined with the new CCS Evolution control system, it gives owners and operators a smarter, more productive crane for today’s construction projects and tomorrow’s regulatory requirements.”
The crane’s other systems support lifting performance and site operation. Potain Plus software optimises lifting speed and capacity, while the Top Site anti-collision system supports crane operation in environments where potential interference needs to be managed. Power Control is designed to maintain performance when the power supply is variable.
Together, these features give contractors and equipment owners a combination of lifting capacity, control and operational flexibility for urban construction work.
Compact Design Supports Urban Construction Sites
The MDT 99e is designed for projects where space constraints can complicate crane installation and operation. Its compact topless configuration and lifting specifications are intended to provide flexibility across urban and residential construction applications.
With a maximum capacity of 5 tonnes and a reach of up to 55 metres, the crane can support material-handling requirements across a construction site. Its jib-end capacity of 1.2 tonnes provides an additional specification for assessing lifting performance at maximum reach.
The optional Ultra View cab provides another configuration choice for owners and operators. Inside the cab, an ergonomic layout and familiar controls are intended to make operation more comfortable and help reduce the risk of errors.
The combination of lifting performance and control technology is designed to help contractors manage construction activities where available space, equipment positioning and coordination between site operations are important considerations.
Simplified Assembly and Transport
Manitowoc has also designed the MDT 99e to simplify assembly and logistics. The crane provides access to the jib and counter-jib from the base, while its component design has been optimised for transport and installation.
Two alternative configurations are available to address different operating requirements. One is intended for customers working mainly on congested urban sites, while the other is designed for owners who regularly assemble cranes using helicopters.
These options allow equipment owners to select a configuration suited to their typical site conditions and assembly methods. Simplified access and transport-oriented component design are intended to make installation more manageable for assembly crews.
The MDT 99e is equipped with a 25 LVF 13 Optima variable-frequency winch and uses permanent four-fall reeving. It is also compatible with existing 1.2-metre K masts or L masts, allowing owners to integrate the crane into fleets that use these mast systems.
Compatibility with existing mast equipment can provide fleet owners with additional flexibility when planning crane deployments and managing equipment investments.
Equipment Features Target Efficiency and Ownership Costs
The MDT 99e combines lifting systems, operator controls and assembly features intended to support equipment utilisation throughout its service life. The control system’s touchscreen interface is designed to simplify commissioning and maintenance, while the crane’s assembly features address transport and installation requirements.
Potain Plus software, Power Control and the Top Site anti-collision system add operational capabilities aimed at supporting lifting performance and site management. The optional Ultra View cab gives owners another choice when specifying equipment for their operations.
For rental companies, the crane’s operator personalisation features and compatibility with existing K or L mast systems may be relevant when assessing deployment across different projects. Its design also addresses owners who need to move equipment between sites with different access and assembly requirements.
Manitowoc’s launch of the Potain MDT 99e expands its tower crane offering with an updated control system, a maximum lifting capacity of 5 tonnes and design features intended for modern urban construction. The model brings together compact equipment design, simplified assembly and lifting technology to address the operational requirements of contractors and crane owners.
