Manitowoc Unveils Potain Evy 28-21 Self-Erecting Crane

Manitowoc is launching Potain Evy 28-21, a new 2.2 t capacity self-erecting crane designed for contractors working in residential construction, carpentry and roofing. The new crane will be unveiled at Batimat 2026, which will be held from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 in Paris.

The crane will be shown alongside an expanded portfolio of customer support products and accessories developed to improve safety, operator comfort, uptime and total cost of ownership.

Potain self-erecting cranes are widely used on jobsites where space is limited and where speed of deployment can have a direct impact on project schedules. The Evy 28-21 follows that approach with a design focused on transport efficiency, simplified site access, automated erection and easier day-to-day operation.

The crane offers a maximum capacity of 2.2 t and a tip load of 950 kg at the 28 m jib end when using the built-in P+ function. Its standard horizontal working height is 21 m, while three jib-angle options – 10°, 20° and 30° – allow the crane to adapt to different site layouts and lifting requirements. At the maximum 30° incline, the Evy 28-21 reaches a hook height of 32.3 m.

For contractors, the practical value is in how the machine gets to work. Manitowoc says the entire counterweight can travel on a single truck, helping reduce transport complexity. Once on site, the crane uses Smart Set-Up remote guidance for automated erection, supporting faster and more controlled deployment.

The Evy 28-21 also integrates Manitowoc’s Crane Control System, Drive Control and Power Control, providing support across transport, set-up and operation. For fleet owners and rental companies, the inclusion of Potain CONNECT adds another layer of value, with remote diagnostics, equipment tracking and operating insights designed to support maintenance planning and reduce downtime.

The crane is also compliant with the upcoming European standard EN 14439:2025, which defines safety requirements for tower cranes and is due to come into effect in January 2027. For equipment owners, that compliance may be an important factor when assessing future fleet requirements and regulatory readiness.

Beyond the crane launch, Manitowoc will use Batimat to highlight its latest customer support innovations. The company will display a range of accessories including the PowerBoost battery system for self-erecting cranes, modular anchor ties for tower cranes, a crane operator urinal and crane-mounted camera systems.

Visitors will be able to see the new Potain Evy 28-21 and Manitowoc’s latest customer support technologies at Hall H7.2, Stand F086 during Batimat 2026.
